Fraction of new mortgages that are owner-occupied
The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act requires financial institutions to publicly disclose information about mortgages. I've used data from 2014 to produce the following map, which shows the fraction of approved mortgages by county that were owner-occupied. We see that counties that are popular for second homes and vacations tend to have low rates of owner occupation (Hawaii, the Oregon coast). Hover over the map with your map to see data for each county.
